“Most important was the double overhead cam engine. Like Rolls-Royce, no horsepower figure was quoted, but surely it was at least 320. More important was its massive amount of torque. Taken together with the turbine-like characteristics of the V12 engine, it mattered little which gear one was in or at what speed.” – Stanley Nowak on the 356 GT4 2+2, Ferrari on the Road.
By the mid-1960s, 50 percent of all Ferraris produced were being built with four seats, and the 365 GT4 2+2, introduced towards the end of 1972, was the biggest and best equipped of this family of four-seaters that had begun with the 250 GTE back in 1960. Flagship of the Maranello range, it reaffirmed Ferrari’s determination to compete with the world’s finest luxury saloons. Based on the preceding 365 GT 2+2, albeit lower, longer and wider, the newcomer was fitted with a four-cam version of the Gioacchino Colombo-designed 4.4-litre V12 engine while retaining its predecessor’s mechanical underpinnings. Thus the ‘4’ came with all-independent suspension featuring Koni’s self-levelling system at the rear, while further refinements included mounting the engine and drive train in rubber bushes to insulate the car’s occupants from noise and vibration, and offering air conditioning and ZF power-assisted steering as standard equipment. A total of only 524 of the luxurious Grandes Routières had been completed by the time production ceased in 1976.
According to information supplied by Ferrari historian Marcel Massini, this beautifully presented 365 GT 2+2 was completed at Ferrari’s Maranello factory in May 1975 and supplied via the official Ferrari dealer Crepaldi of Milan to its first owner. The original colour combination was Azzuro Hyperion (a light blue metallic) with Nero Cogolo leather interior, the same as now.
The first owner was a Mrs Bruna Dondoni of Pavia in Northern Italy, who kept the car until 1982. The Ferrari was subsequently registered in Turin and more recently was owned by a resident of Pisa (from 2004 onwards). In 2014 the car passed into the hands of a well-known Italian nobleman in Tuscany (also the director of a bank) who owned it until 2019. The next owner commissioned a repaint in the original colour and at the same time the car received a through service at the Rome-based Ferrari dealer Samocar, for which invoices are available totalling almost €17,000. More recently the carburettors were cleaned, the air and oil filters changed, and the distributor caps and ignition leads renewed.
Offered with Italian registration documents and the aforementioned invoices, this beautiful 365 GT 2+2 represents a wonderful opportunity to purchase a classic Ferrari combining the legendary carburettor-fed 12-cylinder engine and manual gearbox together with accommodation for four passengers in arguably one of the best colour combinations for the model. https://flic.kr/p/2jFGnfu

Despite its 1:18 scale the Tamiya Dynahead 6×6 R/C Truck may very well be the perfect vehicle for 2020. You can buy it online, get it delivered, build it, and drive it in your backyard without ever having to interact with anyone else. Plus, it has full six-wheel drive and that’s never a bad thing.
The Dynahead 6×6 was designed by Takayuki Yamazaki of PDC Design-Works with inspiration taken from the gruelling world of off-road truck trials. The cab-forward design is popular because it maximizes both forward visibility for the driver and the load carrying capability in the rear – these are the key reasons its also used on the Unimog. That said, this vehicle clearly won’t be carrying any loads.
Tamiya use their G6-01 chassis for the Dynahead 6×6, this chassis offers full six-wheel drive coupled with four-wheel steering (front and back) if you invest in a few additional parts – though realistically four-wheel steering isn’t generally needed in an R/C environment.
The G6-01 chassis uses hub reduction axles to raise ground clearance by 15mm, in conjunction with the traction provided by a 37.35:1 gear ratio tis means there are very few R/C vehicles that can cover the same terrain as the Dynahead 6×6.
The kit arrives requiring assembly and paint, it also needs a two-channel radio, a servo, an ESC (electronic speed control), a 7.2 volt battery pack & charger, and Tamiya PS paint – all of which is available on the Tamiya website. The reason this isn’t all included is to keep the cost down as many enthusiasts already have all of these items at home and they don’t want to pay for the same parts multiple times when buying new kits.
The kit is supplied with five-spoke wheels and V-tread block tires for bite on a wide variety of terrain types. The 1:18 scale kit has a length of 453mm, a width of 244mm, and a height of 232mm, with a wheelbase of 173 + 126mm.

Coachwork by Zagato
A curvy machine.
Long-tailed cars (coda lungs) are generally quicker on the straight, and the shorter or more curvy ones (coda tondo) lighter and more agile in corners. In this design, Zagato bet on compactness and rounded overhangs. With this bodywork the Giulietta dominated the 1300-1600 class in rallies.

Stanguellini Barchetta Ala d'Oro - 1943 by Perico001 1100 Sport Nazionale
The Stanguellini Barchetta Ala d’Oro (literally, “golden wing”) was born in 1943 out of the imagination of Francesco Stanguellini, son of the founder of the homonymous sports car maker in Modena in 1900. The company, despite its small size, enjoyed a glorious history of victories, even over its more famous “cousins” at Ferrari.
Francesco had a passion for racecars, and was described as “the engine wizard” by the press for his ability to build light and powerful cars by transforming other models’ frames and engines. One day he drew the first sketch of this splendid vehicle (1,110cc, 45hp, 185 kilometers per hour at top speed), which would win the Italian Sportscar Championship in 1946 and 1947.

The Datsun 240Z is one of the most popular, and arguably one of the most important, Japanese cars of its era. With the recent release (at the time of writing) of the Nissan Z Proto, now is a fitting time to take a look back at the original Z car, and to marvel at how much the prices have skyrocketed in recent years.
The Datsun 240Z you see here is a comprehensively restored 1972 model and by a stroke of luck it’s wearing almost the same shade of Lime green as the new Z Proto. The car has a black interior with coloured carpeting and vented seat backs, it has a traditional wood-rimmed steering wheel and a polished wood gear knob to match.
The restoration process was thorough but the team behind it had the presence of mind to keep the original stickers and tags throughout, the vehicle is also fitted with its original engine and 4-speed manual transmission.
There have been a few very minor (and reversible) changes made to the car in the name of convenience and performance, it’s now fitted with a ceramic-coated exhaust and a Frigiking air-conditioning system, as well as Rota wheels on all four corners.
The engine bay will bring great joy to anyone with a love for tidiness and attention to detail, it’s the best-organised bay we’ve seen in some time and it’s always a marvel at how much room there is for access around the engine – a far cry from modern engine bays that require mechanics to have multi-joined arms no more than 1/4″ in diameter.
The car is showing 29,292 miles (at time of cataloguing) though thanks to the restoration it appears essentially brand new throughout.
The Datsun 240Z was originally released in 1969 (1970 model year), and it was known as the Nissan Fairlady 240Z in some markets. At the time of its release the styling of the car was compared to both the Jaguar E-Type and the Porsche 911, the design of the 240Z is frequently pointed to as a highlight of Japanese auto design from the era, and it remains very popular to the modern day.
As the model name suggests, the 240Z was fitted with a 2.4 litre L24 inline-6 with a single overhead cam, two-valves per cylinder, and twin Hitachi SU-type carburetors. The engine was capable of 151 hp in stock trim, a respectable figure for the day. Nissan fitted all versions of the Z car range with four-wheel independent suspension – MacPherson struts up front with Chapman struts in the back, front disc brakes and rear drums were also standard.
The styling, handling, performance, and engineering of the 240Z were highly praised by the motoring press upon release and long waitlists began to form at dealerships across the country. The 240Z would be followed by the 260Z in 1974 and then by the 280Z in 1975 (in the North American market), these cars were fitted with 2.6 litre and 2.8 litre engines respectively.
Early, original examples of the Datsun 240Z that have survived the intervening decades with out being scrapped or rusting to oblivion are now highly collectible and they’re seeing the similar climb in prices we saw with air-cooled Porsche 911s a few years ago.
The 1972 Datsun 240Z has a price estimate of $75,000 to $90,000 USD and it’s being offered without reserve by RM Sotheby’s in late October as part of the Elkhart Collection. If you’d like to read more about it or register to bid you can click here to visit the listing.
