“Most important was the double overhead cam engine. Like Rolls-Royce, no horsepower figure was quoted, but surely it was at least 320. More important was its massive amount of torque. Taken together with the turbine-like characteristics of the V12 engine, it mattered little which gear one was in or at what speed.” – Stanley Nowak on the 356 GT4 2+2, Ferrari on the Road.

By the mid-1960s, 50 percent of all Ferraris produced were being built with four seats, and the 365 GT4 2+2, introduced towards the end of 1972, was the biggest and best equipped of this family of four-seaters that had begun with the 250 GTE back in 1960. Flagship of the Maranello range, it reaffirmed Ferrari’s determination to compete with the world’s finest luxury saloons. Based on the preceding 365 GT 2+2, albeit lower, longer and wider, the newcomer was fitted with a four-cam version of the Gioacchino Colombo-designed 4.4-litre V12 engine while retaining its predecessor’s mechanical underpinnings. Thus the ‘4’ came with all-independent suspension featuring Koni’s self-levelling system at the rear, while further refinements included mounting the engine and drive train in rubber bushes to insulate the car’s occupants from noise and vibration, and offering air conditioning and ZF power-assisted steering as standard equipment. A total of only 524 of the luxurious Grandes Routières had been completed by the time production ceased in 1976.

According to information supplied by Ferrari historian Marcel Massini, this beautifully presented 365 GT 2+2 was completed at Ferrari’s Maranello factory in May 1975 and supplied via the official Ferrari dealer Crepaldi of Milan to its first owner. The original colour combination was Azzuro Hyperion (a light blue metallic) with Nero Cogolo leather interior, the same as now.

The first owner was a Mrs Bruna Dondoni of Pavia in Northern Italy, who kept the car until 1982. The Ferrari was subsequently registered in Turin and more recently was owned by a resident of Pisa (from 2004 onwards). In 2014 the car passed into the hands of a well-known Italian nobleman in Tuscany (also the director of a bank) who owned it until 2019. The next owner commissioned a repaint in the original colour and at the same time the car received a through service at the Rome-based Ferrari dealer Samocar, for which invoices are available totalling almost €17,000. More recently the carburettors were cleaned, the air and oil filters changed, and the distributor caps and ignition leads renewed.

Offered with Italian registration documents and the aforementioned invoices, this beautiful 365 GT 2+2 represents a wonderful opportunity to purchase a classic Ferrari combining the legendary carburettor-fed 12-cylinder engine and manual gearbox together with accommodation for four passengers in arguably one of the best colour combinations for the model. https://flic.kr/p/2jFGnfu

Ferrari 512S - 1970 by Perico001 Chassis n° 1004 Put together...

Ferrari 512S - 1970 by Perico001 Chassis n° 1004

Put together in just three months by a team headed by Mauro Forghieri, the 512 S mounted an all-alloy V12 of almost five litres with four valves per cylinder. The tubular spaceframe was developed from the P4 and the 612, while the bodywork was designed by Giacomo Caliri and made from polycarbonate for light weight.

The car offered here, chassis 1004, was completed in late 1969 in preparation of the 1970 World Endurance Championship. The car featured external door hinges, a roof vent and larger diameter anti-roll bar. Chassis 1004 was immediately destined for competition and entered the 1970 Daytona 24 Hours, which was also the debut for the Ferrari 512 S model.

Ferrari 288 GTO - 1985 by Perico001 Announced by Enzo Ferrari in...

Ferrari 288 GTO - 1985 by Perico001 Announced by Enzo Ferrari in September 1983, and unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1984, the GTO (also known unofficially with the 288 prefix) sparked off a wave of enthusiasm. The legendary name, the stunning styling by Pininfarina, the engine with its seemingly inexhaustible power (2.8 litres and 8 cylinders) and the widespread use of composite materials, made the GTO the closest thing to a racing car.

‘The 550 Barchetta Pininfarina was designed to recall the glories of successful road racers of the past, such as the 166 MM, and thoroughbred front-engined 12-cylinder Ferrari roadsters of the calibre of the 250 GT California and 365 GTS/4 Daytona. Ferrari has always created very special runs of cars, and the 550 Barchetta Pininfarina was developed with the aim of being a unique Ferrari - one that deliberately seeks to be more provocative and less rational than the rest of the range.’ - Ferrari.

The long association between Ferrari and Pininfarina has been responsible for the creation of some of the most sublime fusions of art and automotive technology, and to mark the world renowned Carrozzeria’s 70th Anniversary in 2000, Ferrari supremo Luca di Montezemolo invited Sergio Pininfarina to submit designs for a front-engined roadster embodying the spirit of past Maranello classics. Choosing the 550 Maranello coupé as the basis, the maestro proposed a return to the traditional barchetta style. In Ferrari’s own words: “Functional and unadorned with a simple manual soft-top, the barchetta-style solution has enabled Ferrari’s engineers to offset the additional weight gained by reinforcing the chassis and fitting rear roll bars. Consequently the 550 Barchetta Pininfarina weighs no more than the 500 Maranello.”

The heart of any Ferrari is its engine, and the Barchetta Pininfarina’s 48-valve, 5.5-litre V12 is the same as that of the 550 Maranello, developing 485bhp at 7,000rpm. All main engine castings of this state-of-the-art power unit are in light alloy, the aluminium wet liners are Nikasil coated and the connecting rods are titanium alloy. The design of the inlet and exhaust systems is derived directly from that of Ferrari’s Formula 1 engines, providing the optimum balance between volumetric and combustion efficiency. Variable intake geometry helps increase both torque and maximum power as its manufacturer explains: “Ferrari’s patented system incorporates a third plenum in the intake manifold which varies the fluid dynamic characteristics. Air is taken in via 12 electro-pneumatic throttle valves which are governed by the engine’s CPU. This control ensures optimum performance at all engine speeds, guaranteeing excellent torque delivery throughout the rev range.” One expects nothing less from Ferrari.

Standard equipment included electric windows and door mirrors, air conditioning, remote alarm and central locking, and split-rim alloy wheels. The production run was limited to 448 cars, each individually numbered and carrying a plaque inside with its own serial number and Sergio Pininfarina’s signature. The result was an instant classic, with production reserved for a handful of faithful Ferraristi.

Built to United States specification, this example was delivered new to Sheikh Al Thani in Doha, Qatar on 21st May 2002 and was first serviced by Servizio Rosso in Los Angeles, USA in July 2007, including changing the timing belts. In November 2016, at 596 miles, Modena Cars in Geneva replaced the fuel pumps, and their invoice for CHF 6,966 is on file. Finished in red with Burgundy and beige interior, the car is offered with owner’s warranty, all books, a detailed specification listing supplied by Ferrari, and Equatorial Guinea registration papers, customs document and technical inspection. This most exclusive modern Ferrari would be a credit to any private collection.
