Designed by the young stylist Ercole Spada, who had been hired by Zagato in March 1960, the Appia Sport’s lightweight aluminium body made the most of the 1,100cc 60bhp engine, the result being a surprisingly fast car for its size. The short-wheelbase Appia Sport would be built until January 1963.

This rare example was delivered new in Turin, Italy in 1962 finished in the same Burgundy colour it has today. The car stayed in Italy until 1975 when it was exported to New York, USA to new owner Mr Nicholas J Godano. It is believed that the Appia was moved to dry storage in California shortly after arrival and remained there, unused, until 2010 when it was bought by the current Belgian owner. A passionate enthusiast, the owner commissioned HAS to carry out a full professional ‘last nut and bolt’ restoration, which commenced in 2011 and was only finished in 2014.

After the mammoth task of restoring this beautiful car had been completed, it was registered in 2014 by the current owner, who has enjoyed it to the fullest extent. Since completion the Appia has been entered in various concours d'élégance events, including Masterclass Antwerp where it received a 3rd prize in 2015 and in 2018 won the 'Best Restored Car’ class.

Recent works include an overhaul of the Weber Carburettors carried out by VGS in Cologne, Germany in 2018 (invoice on file). Accompanying documentation includes the following:

Belgian registration papers
Numerous restoration photographs
Copy of US Title (New York)
Original 1975 insurance identification card in the name of Nicholas J Godano
Invoices for parts
HAS invoices for work carried out 2013, 2014, 2018
Lancia Appia Zagato book
Photographs from 2010 showing the car in un-restored condition in the USA

The car also comes with an independant valuers condition report confirming it to be in General Condition 1, meaning that it is in excellent/concours condition and very hard to fault. A head-turner at any event, this Appia Sport Zagato is worthy of the closest inspection and is ready to participate in any suitable event. https://flic.kr/p/2gXAdam

Iso Rivolta Vision Gran Turismo Zagato Concept - 2017 by...

Iso Rivolta Vision Gran Turismo Zagato Concept - 2017 by Perico001 Now, with the IsoRivolta Vision Gran Turismo, Zagato closes the circle and takes us back to Milan, where, after World War II, the GT category of motorsport was conceptualized, created, and promoted by four illustrious Milanese figures: Count Giovanni Lurani, journalists Giovanni Canestrini and Corrado Filippini, and gentleman driver Elio Zagato, the father of Andrea, the current CEO of Zagato. This intermediate GT class hosted cars that were halfway between production touring saloons and racing purpose-built barchettas of international motorsport.

Zagato-bodied models – streamlined and lightweight coupes, successful in racing, but also comfortable enough for everyday use – found their natural place in the new GT category, monopolizing it and securing numerous wins. The Zagato IsoRivolta Vision Gran Turismo is the realization of a dream, and designed to race in the virtual world of the Gran Turismo Sport game.

The Zagato IsoRivolta Vision Gran Turismo featured in the video game is built around a bespoke chassis and a Callaway powertrain. Rear wheel drive, it mounts a twin turbo 6.2 liter V8, with a power output of 997 hp and a top speed of 365 km/h. Thanks to a weight of 1.129 kg, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2”7. The gearbox is a ten speed automatic/sequential.

Aston Martin DB7 Zagato - 2004 by Perico001 n° 82 of...

Aston Martin DB7 Zagato - 2004 by Perico001 n° 82 of 99

Rekindling one of the motoring world’s most iconic partnerships, Aston Martin and Zagato fittingly unveiled the new DB7 Zagato to a private gathering of valued customers in 2002 at Gieves & Hawkes, No.1 Saville Row, London. Based on a shortened DB7 platform, the Zagato employed the 435bhp V12 powerplant mated to a short-throw 6 speed manual transmission. The distinctive styling, including Zagato’s trademarked “double-bubble” roof, evoked strong memories of the iconic DB4 GT Zagato from the 1960s, not to mention the stunning driveline from the most focused DB7 built, the GT, ensuring that the orderbook for all 99 cars was quickly fulfilled. Bodied mostly in aluminium by Carrozzeria Zagato in Italy, the car was almost 60kg lighter than the standard DB7 GT giving it a suitably enhanced turn of speed over its mechanically similar stablemate.

The performance of FIAT engines, as modified by Carlo Abarth, has for long been held to verge on the supernatural.’ – John Bolster, Autosport magazine.

‘After leaving Cisitalia in 1948, Austrian-born engineer Carlo Abarth set up as an independent in Turin, the home of the Italian auto industry. From producing induction and exhaust systems, Abarth branched out into selling performance kits for - mainly FIAT - production cars, later building a highly successful series of aerodynamically-stylish sports prototypes and limited-series production cars, many of which were produced in conjunction with Carrozzeria Zagato. An innovative concern with a sporting pedigree second-to-none, Abarth was taken over by FIAT in 1971, becoming the Italian giant’s competitions department.

One of Carlo Abarth’s most successful series of GT cars was based on the FIAT 600, the first of these handsome little Zagato-bodied coupés - the 750 - appearing in 1956. Famed for its expertise in building lightweight, aerodynamically efficient competition cars, Carrozzeria Zagato was the perfect choice for Abarth’s new venture, and has there ever been a prettier small coupé than the Abarth 750 Zagato? Zagato’s stroke of genius was the distinctive 'double bubble’ roof that gave both driver and passenger adequate headroom without the penalty of a tall windscreen.

Although the 750 was production based, the customer had such freedom of choice, including engine specification, that it is rare to find two identical cars. The 600 chassis was used with scant modification apart from changing spring rates and up-rating the front brakes to twin-leading-shoe operation, yet despite this apparent handicap coped remarkably well with the Abarth’s greatly increased performance. The latter was achieved by boring and stroking the 600’s 633cc four-cylinder engine to 747cc and modifying or replacing just about every other component, the result being an increase in maximum power from 23bhp at 4,000rpm to 44bhp at 6,000 revs. Tested by The Autocar magazine in 1958, the Abarth Zagato 750 GT scorched through the standing quarter-mile in 20 seconds on its way to maximum speed of 95mph, outstanding figures for such a small-engined car.

The next stage of development saw the 750 equipped with an Abarth-designed double-overhead-camshaft cylinder head that helped liberate 47bhp from the tiny engine, models thus equipped being dubbed 'Bialbero’ (Twin-cam). Abarth’s diminutive coupés were soon dominating the small-capacity classes in international GT racing. Indeed, in North American SCCA events the 1.0-litre Abarth was obliged to compete against rivals displacing up to 3.8 litres and still proved capable of winning!

Delivered new in Italy, this beautiful FIAT-Abarth 750 Zagato was restored in 1991 and between 1992 and 1996 participated in the Mille Miglia Storica with some success. Finished in red with original black interior, the car is registered in Belgium, having been imported in 2017 by the present owner, and is presented in generally very good condition. Mille Miglia-eligible, this FIAT- Abarth comes with photographs of it participating in the event; Belgian registration papers; and a FIVA passport. https://flic.kr/p/2dDZqCc
