Founded by Louis Renault and his brothers Marcel and Fernand in 1898, the company that would become France’s biggest automobile manufacturer started humbly enough, with a solitary 1¾hp De Dion-engined prototype. By 1904 Renault was building its own engines - large-capacity fours at first, followed by the AX twin - and in 1908 introduced its first six-cylinder model despite Louis Renault’s aversion to such complication. Renault exported many luxury chassis to the USA in the 20th Century’s early years, opening a showroom on New York’s Fifth Avenue in 1909. The company’s American agency proudly described the Renault in its advertisements as ‘the car that will last forever’.

This particular car is built on the Type CC chassis - a development of the BX - and has a 3,560cc four-cylinder engine, cone clutch, four-speed gearbox, and wire-spoked wheels. The torpedo open tourer coachwork is by Million-Guiet of Levallois-Perret, Seine, a firm that could trace its carriage-making origins as far back as 1854. Described by the vendor as partially restored and in generally good condition, with correct engine and body, the car is offered with French Carte Grise. Featuring the marque’s trademark coal-scuttle bonnet and bulkhead-mounted radiator, this is a fine Edwardian car that would enhance any collection and grace any major concours d'élégance. https://flic.kr/p/2g4ewV1
