1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 at a car show at a local church in the Chicago area.
The Boss 302 Mustang was available with an engine that was quite different from Ford’s other 302 cu in (4.9 liter) V8s. Its lighter weight block was made with higher nickel content and with thinner walls for the SCCA Trans Am racing series and was virtually unchanged in the production car. It produced 290 horsepower (216 kW) at 5,200 rpm. The car’s design was done by Larry Kiyoshi Shinoda who also worked for General Motors on the design of the C2 Corvette and the second generation Corvair. He also was partly responsible for the design of the first generation Jeep Grand Cherokee.
