This is a complete defensive driving course that was made in 1973 by Film Australia. Although times have changed the overwhelming majority of defensive driving skills are the same now as they were then, making this free series of nine films essential viewing.
Defensive driving is defined as “driving to save lives, time, and money, in spite of the conditions around you and the actions of others”. A key component of all defensive driving courses is teaching people to account for the actions of others, as the old saying goes “there are plenty of people in graveyards who had the right of way”.
We’ve included all nine episodes of this series here, the first episode is above and the other eight are all below in the correct order.
Perhaps the biggest different in defensive driving education today versus back in the 1970s would be the inclusion of teaching about drivers who use their smartphones while behind the wheel. Commonly referred to as “distracted driving” it now accounts for a significant percentage of road deaths every year.
Whilst this series of films can provide some useful tips and valuable information it still isn’t as good as attending a defensive driving course where you receive hands-on training and individual instruction.
